Latin name: Haliotis tuberculata
This mollusc lives in areas sometimes covered by the sea and are found in the intertidal zone, under rocks on the lower shore in the Channel Islands. Ormers are around 10 cm, depending on the age. The larger the shell, the older the ormer. This species is not found in the United Kingdom. Ormers are caught by low water fishermen and monitored by local marine conservation experts. There are less ormers reported every year. Numbers are closely monitored in the Channel Islands to determine how many can be collected.
