Personnel Connection

What does the Jersey Geopark mean to you?

The Geopark is a great recognition of the island’s geological history. As a former scallop fisherman, I now spend my days navigating the waters of Jersey as Seafaris skipper. Visiting a lot of these areas via boat makes it even more spectacular to see. I think its positive that the long-standing history of Jersey’s coast is being celebrated in this way and shared with islanders and visitors.

What’s your favourite geosite and why?

The North Coast, the rugged and raw cliffs and landscape, make of an amazing view from the sea. An area great to explore and full of hidden gems. This impressive 9 mile long coastline is perfect to view from the boat giving you a unique perspective of the island. A typical trip would weave in and out of the bays between St.Catherine and Greve de Lecq. Expect to see old forts, hidden beaches, picturesque fishing harbours, Ronez Quarry and enter the incredible Devils’ Hole cave whilst enjoying stories of the sea & the islands fascinating past!

Bouley Bay
Insight & Inspiration

What first sparked your interest in geology, nature or heritage?

Joining Jersey Seafaris six years ago taught me a lot more than what I knew about all things Jersey! From the rock formations to the Island’s history, it gave me more of an interest and a desire to learn more.

How do you share your passion for the Geopark with others?

Being able to teach people not only daily but almost hourly about the areas in the Geopark, is the best way to share it. Showing them up close from the different perspective of the boat gives a unique view too.

What would you tell someone visiting Jersey for the first time?

Get out and explore. Jersey has and always will be what you make of it, and to do that, you need to get out and explore! There is so much to see and do, but it won’t come to you. Get out on the cliff paths, beaches or the green lanes and see it for yourself.

Looking Ahead

Why is it important for Jersey to become a UNESCO Global Geopark?

Earning this accolade would shine a global spotlight on Jersey’s remarkable geology, breathtaking landscapes, and rich cultural heritage. It’s not just about recognition-it’s about sharing the story of our island with the world, inspiring responsible tourism, and strengthening our commitment to protecting the place that we get to call home. It will bring a renewed sense of pride to the Island’s community, celebrating what makes Jersey so special.

How do you see your role evolving as an ambassador?

As an ambassador, my role would be raising awareness to inspiring action, build community engagement, and hopefully represent Jersey in a new and different way.

Favourite Place in Jersey
Les Ecrehous

Sunrise at Les Ecrehous is hard to beat! I spent many mornings at sea as a fisherman, pre- Jersey Seafaris, seeing the sun rise out of the sea is amazing.
