Tour of La Cotte de St Brelade in 2019, a geosite on the south-west coast of the Island.

Discover Les Varines

Thursday, 3 August at 3pm

At Les Varines, you’ll join Professor Chantal Conneller (Newcastle University) for a tour around a live archaeological excavation of a 15,000 year old hunter-gatherers campsite, exploring the prehistoric landscape of the south-east coast of Jersey.

This tour will be approximately 1 hour along a field track and over uneven surfaces.

NO PARKING, please make your way on bus, bike or foot.

 

Discover La Cotte de St Brelade

Wednesday, 9 August at 6pm

Starting from Ouaisné slipway, you’ll join Dr Matt Pope (UCL) to explore this prominent granite headland in St Brelade’s Bay with the collapsed cave and granite ravines that provided a home for Neanderthal hunter-gatherers for over 200,000 years.

This walk will be approximately 2 hours along the beach and over mixed terrain.

 

Things you need to know:

  • Tours are not suitable for children under 11 years of age.
  • Please be aware you will be navigating over uneven surfaces.
  • Please dress for the weather and wear sensible footwear.
  • A good level of fitness needed.
  • These tours are FREE to attend but pre-booking to each event is essential as numbers are limited.
